Power
The purpose of epilating and shaving is to create silky smooth skin without irritation. You may use the products to epilate or shave areas such as your legs, arms and bikini line. Epilating is not suitable for the intimate area (the outside and inside of outer labia), we advise to only use a trimmer or the shaver with comb attached.
If you are wondering whether this can be accomplished using a dry or wet method, please read the tips below or watch the video for helpful advice.
Dry or wet use
Showerproof appliances provide a comfortable result in or out of the shower. Such products are water-resistant so they can also be used and rinsed with water.
It is important to check the appliance head to see if it is not dirty, damaged or worn out. A faulty appliance head will cause the product’s performance to decline or even skin irritation. If it is damaged it needs to be replaced immediately.
Use the appliance on clean skin. We advise to exfoliate your skin 1 day before epilating or shaving. This removes the dead skin around your hair follicles, makes it easier to remove hair and reduces possible ingrown hairs.
Try and see what works best for you.
Dry Use
We recommend for most products to use in dry conditions, as wet hair tends to stick more to the skin.
Also, if you are looking for a convenient or on the go session, try using on dry skin. Be certain that your skin is clean and completely dry before using the appliance.
Wet Use
For a comfortable feeling and smooth movements, you may use the appliance on wet skin. During wet use, rinse the head regularly to remove hairs and ensure that it continues to glide smoothly over your skin. Make sure your skin is completely wet with water. Do consider wet hairs tend to stick more to the skin, performance may be better on dry skin. Gently pat your skin dry after use.
After Use
As after-care, gently apply an (alcohol-free) Aloe Vera cream/lotion or moisturizer, for its cooling and soothing properties, on your skin. After epilating you may also use a cooling pack to sooth the skin.
Also, allow some adjustment time and give the skin time to recover in between sessions.
Clean the appliance thoroughly to remove all the hairs off the appliance’s head and leave to air-dry.
Sensitive Skin
Make sure skin is clean, stretch the skin, pre-trim long hairs to 3mm and work gently. Try working with or against the grain to see which is more comfortable for you.
Exfoliating your skin, a day or slightly longer before using the appliance, helps to remove dead skin, makes hair removal easier and reduce ingrown hairs. Check if your skin needs some more time between exfoliating and epilating or shaving, so it remains comfortable.
Check what works best, for example gentle skincare products and water if your appliance is waterproof.
Tips
You can rinse your Philips Epilator, Trimmer or Shaver only if it is fully waterproof. You can check that by looking at the signs and symbols printed on your device's box or the back of the handle.
Crossed out tap symbol
If you see a crossed-out tap symbol on the box, body or inside the battery cover of your Philips female hair removal devices, it means that the product is not washable. These products are only suitable for dry use and should be cleaned without water. Use a brush to brush off the hairs that have accumulated inside your product.
Tap symbol
A tap symbol printed on your Philips device indicates that it is washable and its removable parts (cutters and combs) can be cleaned with water. Keep in mind, this does not mean that you can use it to clip or trim your hair in the shower or bath. Remove the head from the handle before rinsing it under the tap. Make sure the parts are completely air dried before putting the device back together.
Bath or shower symbol
If you see a shower or bath symbol printed on your Philips hair removal product, it means that your device is waterproof. It can be safely cleaned with water and used while taking a shower or a bath. For safety reasons, these waterproof devices can only be used cordless and will not turn on if they are connected to the power supply.
Note: Please keep in mind that the symbols on your Philips products vary per model type. If you are still unsure whether it is safe to clean your device with water, then please contact us for further support.
The model and serial number of your Philips Epilator, Lady Shaver, Trimmer or Facial Hair Remover is printed on the back of the handle of the device. It can also be found inside the battery compartment for products that run on replaceable AA batteries.
The model number is often needed when registering your product or when looking for information about your specific model. This starts with the letters BRE, BRL or BRR followed by three digits or HP followed by four digits.
The serial number is printed below the model number. This is used to identify the production date of your product and is in the format YYWW.
No, the lymphatic vessels are located deeper in the skin and there is no risk of damaging them when you epilate. If you are concerned, consult your doctor.
There are two speed setting options available. You can select the low speed or the high speed setting by pressing the on/off button or by sliding the speed setting slide up.
If you press the on/off button once, Philips Epilator starts on a high speed setting (setting II). If you press on/off again, the speed setting changes to a low speed (setting I). When you press on/off button the third time, your epilator switches off.
Note: The Essential epilator is equipped with 2 speed settings. When using the shaving head, there is only 1 speed setting available. This setting is most ideal for shaving.
